Mane: Shading and Texturing by Pony-Spiz Mane: Shading and Texturing by Pony-Spiz
Did this for Fribox since he asked how I did my mane/hair.

Hope it helps! ^_^

Wow... This will be very useful, even though I use Inkscape for most of my shenanigans, there's gotta be a way to do this with it, right? Or maybe it may be simpler to create the basic vector with Inkscape and then do the mane shading with Gimp... Gah! I'm such a newb :c

Well, anyway, thank you! :D

Oh, also, do you think you could do a tutorial on your eyes? They're just really pretty and unique!

That's a bit more advanced shading than most show manes have.

Oh yes, though the show doesn't have any shading in it at all. That's why this tut is how I do it. Thanks :)

What about the people out there that don't have fancy programs to use? We don't all have the expensive crap out there.
Almost all of the people i have friended don't have expensive stuff, including me, and it would be helpful if you made a tutorial like this with a free program. There are plenty of people out there who don't spend money on things online. Some of us aren't too good with shading, and it would help if you did so. Thanks! c:
For people who do have this, this is very helpful.
For people who don't have this, this can be helpful if they can find brushes that work in a similar way.

Well that is true, however I have used photoshop for about 8 years now, so I don't use any free software, therefore I don't know the techniques to pull it off. This tutorial can be applied to other programs, all you need is a smudge tool and a paint brush tool.

Thanks though!

Gimp is almost like adobe photoshop and it's freeware... it doesn't take much to simply figure out which tool on Gimp does what. This tutorial shows how to use generic tools that are available on freeware.

This is very useful, I was looking for something to break up the "this is a block of color" feeling... I'm not too close to posting anything but I doubt I'll be a pure lurker for much longer, thanks largely to people like you who go to the trouble to help people out!
